Kanha’s flora is the underpinning of the parks entire eco system. Tigers could not have lived here and other animals such as Barasingha, sambar, wild boar. They could not subsist without the plant life. The Bears, Langurs and the birds depend upon the flowers and its nectar for survival.
A Canadian Biologist named Renata Jaremovic carried out a research project in Kanha in 1990’s identified the following six readily recognizable habitats within the forest, together with major mammals that make use of them:
1. Sal Forest: Boar, Chital, Langur, Tiger, Leopard, Wild Dog, Jungle Cat, Bear
2. Sal/Mixed Bamboo: Sambar, wild Boar, Langur, Tiger, Leopard
3. Misc. Mixed Bamboo: Same species as above.
4. Misc. Mixed Deciduous: Gaur, Sambar, Chow Singha, Langur, Tiger, Leopard.
5. Grassland: Black Buck, Chital, Barasingha, Chowsingha, wild Boar, Dog.
6. Habitation: used by Species accustomed to Humans.
There are four main vegetation types in Kanha:
1. Moist Deciduous Forest (covers 27% of forest area)
2. Dry Deciduous Forest
3. Valley Meadow
4. Dadar Meadow
The trees that are mainly grown on this land are:
• Bamboo
• Sal
• Bel
• Jamun
• Saja
• Aonla
